Key Benefits

Tracking & Location Awareness

With System Loco’s real-time tracking capabilities, the company gained full visibility over its pallet fleet—knowing precisely where each asset was at all times across multiple warehouses, customer locations, and transit hubs. This allowed for better forecasting, route planning, and inventory control.

Loss & Theft Prevention

Pallet loss—whether from theft, misplacement, or incomplete returns—had a direct impact on cost. System Loco’s BLE-enabled solution offered immediate alerts and historical tracking, dramatically reducing the number of lost pallets and facilitating rapid recovery when assets went off-course.

Minimized Dwell Time

Prolonged idle time at customer locations or distribution centers had historically led to bottlenecks and poor asset utilization. By identifying these dwell locations in real time, System Loco enabled the company to retrieve and redeploy assets faster, improving turnaround and enhancing fleet efficiency.

Patented Technology

Pallets get transported in bulk and we enable intelligent orchestration through the formation of a smart network between co-located pallets. Enabling significantly improved battery life, as well as management of RF transmissions to enable inventory counting in pallet dense (10’s of thousands of pallets) environments.

Introduction

Challenge

A major North American provider of reusable pallet solutions was facing mounting pressure to modernize operations amid increasing demand for transparency, sustainability, and performance. With thousands of pallets in active use across retail, food, and distribution channels, the company needed a smarter way to manage its physical assets—one that didn’t rely on manual tracking or reactive processes. To remain competitive and cost-efficient, the company turned to IoT-powered automation.

Challenge

The traditional model for tracking pallets was time-intensive and error-prone. As volumes grew, so did the complications—losses from misplaced or stolen pallets, limited insights into asset utilization, and significant dwell time that dragged on performance metrics. Customers expected faster turnaround, yet the company often lacked the real-time data to ensure pallets were where they were supposed to be. The lack of automation not only impacted operational costs but also limited the company’s ability to scale efficiently.

The Solution

Each pallet was equipped with a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tag, transmitting continuous location data to strategically placed gateway hubs. These hubs, installed at partner facilities and transit nodes, pushed data to a central dashboard integrated with the company’s supply chain management system. Through this platform, logistics teams could instantly identify pallet location, monitor dwell duration, assess asset condition, and intervene when thresholds were breached.

Results & Impact

Post-deployment, the transformation was clear. Pallet visibility increased dramatically, reducing time spent searching for misplaced inventory and improving the speed of asset recovery. The reduction in theft and loss created an immediate financial benefit, while minimizing dwell time allowed for faster pallet turnover and greater service levels for key accounts. Operational costs dropped, service predictability improved, and data-driven workflows replaced outdated manual processes. The company also enhanced its reputation with clients who prioritized transparency and sustainability in their supply chains.

Conclusion

With System Loco’s scalable IoT solution, the company turned its pallet program from a passive logistics function into a dynamic asset intelligence system. The visibility, security, and responsiveness of the new platform allowed the organization to grow confidently while reducing risk and inefficiencies. In an industry where asset control is often a blind spot, this customer now stands out as a leader in smart, sustainable logistics.
